Get Started
This tutorial gives you a safe first pass through the kit. By the end, you will have a workshop-ready initiative outline, a first use-case inventory, and the minimum set of templates to take into the first planning workshop.
Before You Start
You need:
- A target business or operating context.
- A likely executive sponsor or business owner.
- A rough statement of the outcome the sponsor or requesting team wants to improve.
- Access to the template index.
Do not choose a platform yet. The first pass is about value, workflow, data, and controls.
1. Frame The Initiative
Open How to run an agentic AI engagement and capture the Gate 0 evidence:
- Sponsor.
- Business owner.
- Workload owner.
- Security or compliance contact.
- Target business or operating context.
- Workshop schedule.
Stop if there is no accountable business owner. The rest of the process depends on a named owner for value, scope, and decisions.
2. Create The First Use-Case Inventory
Open the use-case inventory. Add one row for each idea stakeholders have already raised.
For each row, fill only the fields you can defend:
- Use case name.
- Business or operating context.
- Target users.
- Current workflow pain.
- Desired outcome.
- KPI baseline or a note that no baseline exists.
Leave scoring blank until the decision owners agree on the criteria.
3. Route Ideas Before Selecting Tools
Use How to select and prioritize use cases to classify each idea.
Every idea should receive a routing decision:
- SaaS or prebuilt agent.
- Microsoft 365 extension.
- Copilot Studio agent.
- Foundry or custom agent.
- Automation or workflow.
- Search or RAG.
- Analytics or model.
- Stop or defer.
Record "not an agent" decisions. They are useful delivery outcomes, not failures.
4. Prepare The First Planning Workshop
Open How to facilitate workshops and prepare the first planning workshop around five outputs:
- Outcome map.
- KPI baseline.
- Use-case inventory.
- Not-an-agent log.
- Pilot shortlist.
Keep the agenda narrow. The first planning workshop should not design architecture, pick models, or approve production risk.
5. Assemble The Starter Pack
Bring these artifacts into the first workshop:
| Artifact | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Use-case inventory | Capture and classify ideas |
| Data readiness assessment | Preview data-readiness questions |
| Retrieval decision register | Prepare grounding and tool-use decisions |
| Operating model RACI | Preview accountability questions |
Finish Criteria
You are ready for the first planning workshop when:
- The business outcome is measurable enough to discuss.
- Candidate ideas are listed before any platform choice.
- The sponsor understands that simpler automation, search, analytics, or SaaS may be the right answer.
- The facilitator has the template pack ready.
